What I Watched Today: Shuffle

image

It sounded cool, and it also seems similar to a story idea I came up with a few days ago, so I’m making sure it hasn’t already been done lol.

I’m a sucker for nonlinear narrative, so this was great for me. It was a pretty good progression of events, and I wasn’t even left with many questions. Some parts unfolded more predictably than others, but that’s fine haha.

The editing was really different, and I haven’t seen a movie quite like it, so that was pretty cool.

When it isn’t tugging at my heart, this movie has such a cute story, and I’d probably watch it again :)

p.s. okay, who was in charge of this version of the movie cover, because I’m not sure it accurately refelcts the tone of this movie lol

What I Watched Today: The Artist

I put this in the Instant Queue a LONG time ago, but i finally found the time to watch it.

They chose good faces in that everyone looks like they belong in the time period. Like, I feel the leads may not necessarily fit the aesthetic for today, but they have 1920s faces, I guess?

This movie is a lot of things: Charming, heartwrenching, sweet, and even a funny, to a point.

I really did like it, and if I’m in the right mood, I wouldn’t mind watching it again :)

What I Watched Today: The Art of Getting By

image

I remember seeing the trailer for this a while ago, and I really wanted to see it, but I didn’t see it until last night, haha.

There’s little character development, and the main ones aren’t as dynamic as I’d like.

The majority of the story was what I expected it to be, based on the trailer, but the ending got harder to predict the further through the movie I got.

It’s a good coming-of-age movie. I personally liked it, but I think I should have seen it before I finished high school. Timing is everything, no?

What I Watched Today: Keith

Cristina actually recommended this movie to me, but I didn’t watch it until today (because I haven’t really been on Netflix much haha).

I thought it’d take some time for me to like Keith’s character, but I was wrong. He was an instant favorite. Natalie kinda grew on me over time.

The story was good. By the end, I could tell what was gonna happen, but the general progression of events was well done, I’d say. There were times when I was confused, but not with what happened, but more of the why. One could say this is just another Walk to Remember, but it’s not. It’s a completely different tone here, and not so sappy. I’d definitely choose this over A Walk To Remember. lol

It was good. Definitely worth watching at least once.

What I Watched Today: The Myth of the American Sleepover

After seeing this movie, I find it really amusing that a lot of cartoons here look just like their character in the movie. I saw this randomly while looking through recommendations from Netflix. Technically, I watched this Friday. haha

There were a whole bunch of characters, likable or not. My favorite characters were Rob and Claudia.

Now all of the individual stories were cool. There was definitely a lot going on. Storylines would change without warning. But by the end of the movie, I loved each of the stories for their own reasons.

I want to watch it again. I feel like there’s a lot I missed, and I think it’d be worth watching again :)

What I Watched Today: The Cabin In The Woods

The room across the hall was watching this, and I didn’t feel like going to bed yet, so I decided to watch with them.

Let me start with the story first, because that shit was crazy. It was mad intense, and while I don’t normally watch stuff in this genre, I couldn’t stop watching. It was a really cool concept. Except the ending was something I could not possibly guess. My mind was blown LOL.

The stoner was mildly entertaining at first, but he became one of the most enjoyable characters for me hahah. And the redhead was so cute. I also enjoyed the dude that kept wanting the merman to showup.

It was intense. I’d watch it again, but with people that haven’t seen it before. Because I bet they’ll have a lot of questions hahah.

What I Watched Today: Super 8

I was interested in seeing it when it came out, but I wasn’t interested enough to actually go out and see it LOL.

One thing that was interesting was that I didn’t recognize any of the actors or actresses. But despite this, I enjoyed most of the characters.

When it took forever for us to see the mystery creature, I could only think of Cloverfield (which I never saw, but I did hear you don’t see the monster until the end?). The movie didn’t just have the obvious plot. There were a few side stories that worked well into the big picture.

I liked it. There were definitely intense parts, and parts that we’d probably talk about in my Physics for Filmmakers class LOL.

What I Watched Today: No Strings Attached

This came up when I searched Natalie Portman’s name, and I sorta-kinda wanted to see this movie.

I’m never gonna assume again. I figured character’s roles were the opposite of what it was in the movie. Maybe I haven’t watched many movies with Ashton Kutcher in it (or maybe I’m just used to him in That 70s Show LOL), but he plays a different role than I’d expect from him (in a good way, I suppose). I did like the characters in this movie. I enjoyed Luda’s a lot LOL.

The plot did the main-characters-fall-in-love-too-soon-before-the-end-of-the-movie thing. It frustrated me, but it worked out, I guess. It was a predictable ending, but I didn’t mind, because I really wanted them to end up together.

I liked the movie. I’d watch it again, I’m sure. Probably not anytime soon though.

What I Watched Today: Black Swan

Cristina and I hadn’t seen this, and she had it on her computer, so we watched it. And we asked Kim what happened any time we were confused. lol

I love Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, so they were definitely reasons for me to keep watching. The mom was so overprotective, and I don’t know if that was ever explained.

I really liked the story. There were disturbing things from time to time, but I really liked the story. It just got better as things got gradually worse.

I really liked the movie. I’d definitely watch it again.

What I Watched Today: Uncertainty

This has been in the queue for a good portion of August, and during the weeks before my move-in day, I’ve had little to no time to watch. But today was the day to finish this.

The two main characters are the only ones that I think have enough development. Everyone else seems to be missing something, or we don’t learn enough about them.

I’m sort of iffy about the story. I liked one of the storylines, but not quite the other. This movie was kind of in two different genres, haha. It made for a good drama, I’d say, but it was not a great thriller, as they did not know what they were doing LOL.

I gave it two stars on Netflix, but that’s sort of harsh. I did like it, but I just don’t think I’d choose to watch it again.

What I Watched Today: Paris, Je T’aime

After I watched New York, I Love You, I wanted to see this one too. It was at Blockbuster, and I decided to choose this as the rental lol.

This movie is made up of a bunch of vignettes, so it’s a bit hard to think about all of the different characters and storylines that took place. I will say that I loved most of the characters. The stories were all great, and some turned out to be really surprised.

I’m all about movies like this. Vignettes can be really cool. I really liked this movie as a whole :). I’d watch it again.

What I Watched Today: Rubber

Okay, I’ll make this one quick. I don’t want to give the plot away, but it was ridiculous. Actually, if you don’t want spoilers, don’t even read the description when you choose this on Netflix LOL.

The acting is not great, and some of the dialogue is so cheesy hahah.

Its redeeming quality is that it was well-shot, cinematography-wise.

I’d say give it a chance. If at one point you don’t like it, just watch something else. But maybe you’ll get something out of this (you’ll at least get a laugh).

What I Watched Today: Manic

This came up when I searched Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s name haha.

All of the characters had their fair share of problems. In some cases, they changed for the better by the end of the movie. Some showed little to no change at all at the end.

The story was interesting. I’ve never seen a movie like this before haha. This is not by any means a comedy, but the one part I laughed at was when Don Cheadle’s character talks to a straight up wangster, and says to him, “Is this what you think being Black is, Michael? Wearing baggy clothes and talking a lot of shit?” LOL

I don’t know if I’d watch this again. There are definitely some practical parts, but it’s not enough to justify watching the entire movie again.

What I Watched Today: The Go-Getter

I searched up Zooey Deschanel’s name on Netflix, and this movie came up. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it didn’t look too bad.

There’s a whole bunch of people that Mercer meets on his little journey, and I liked most of them. There were all types of people. Kate makes for an interesting character I’d say, and I don’t think it’s quite Zooey’s normal type of role.

I think I like movies the main character meets a lot of interesting people throughout the whole movie. I thought this would end up being a wild goose chase, and I’m glad it wasn’t. The ending was more or less predictable, but in a good way. It’s the ending I wanted.

I’d watch this again. Maybe someday I’d want to own a copy of it too haha.

What I Watched Today: Rumor Has It

We’ve had this movie for a while, but I’ve never seen anyone watch it lol. I saw Jennifer Aniston on the cover, and I had nothing to do, so I decided to watch it.

My favorite character was probably the grandma LOL. All the other characters tended to not be very entertaining.

The plot was borderline twisted LOL. Plot twists everywhere. With a terribly predictable ending.

We have the movie, so I could always watch it again if I wanted to, but I don’t think I will. loll
